The Becky Feder Workshop Series present: A Face Jug Workshop with Mark Rigsby From the prehistoric figurative pottery of Africa, Asia and Mesopotamia, to the Medieval European face jugs and human head effigy pots of early Mississippian and Peruvian cultures, potters have been sculpting images of animals, and human heads in clay pots for 100's of years. Most commonly known are the face jugs of the Southern Folk Potter. Southern face jugs are highly prized and collectable, but not as readily available as they were in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Now is your chance to make one of your own face jugs. Join Associate Professor and Gallery Director at USM Mark Rigsby, a ceramicist for over 25 years, to make your own face jugs! You can choose between two sessions and create multiple face jugs! Please register by paying for the number of face jugs you wish to create and specify number and sizes. The instructor will throw the jugs for students, and they will then create the faces and embellishment on the vessels while the clay is still wet. All work will be fired to cone 10 at the Museum, and students will be able to pick up their work by September 30. .5 CEU credit hours are available for this course. Teachers wishing to apply for CEU credit must attend the Friday Throw and Tell session as well as the Workshop on Saturday.
