Please join us for a fun raku workshop led by Gulfport artist Christian Bailey. Students will be able to bring pots they have already created and bisque fired to glaze and raku fire at our studio. Bisque pots will also be available for purchase to glaze and fire. If you are not familiar with raku firing, this is a wonderful way to become engaged in the fun of working with clay and fire! You’ll take your pots home with you the same day, too. Class specifics: Students should bring 2 bisque fired pots approximately 5” x 5” in size to class, or be prepared to purchase small pots for glazing and firing. There is a limit of 15 students for this class. Glazing, firing, and instruction are included in the class fee. Traditionally, raku firing encourages a pot luck lunch atmosphere, so please bring along a favorite dish to share! We have restaurants nearby if you would like to grab lunch. Christian Bailey is a ceramic sculptor, potter and teacher, living in Saucier, Mississippi. He has a BFA sculpture from the University of Southern Mississippi, is the current President of the Gulfport Galleria of Fine art, and the department chair of Fine arts at Harrison Central High School. He has been teaching and working in clay for the past decade. His work currently tries to cross the boundary of the functional with sculptural while exploring the wide capabilities of fire.
