Description
Mardi Gras Season is in full swing but after the fun is done, bring those beads and unwanted throws to Mississippi Aquarium for recycling!
Mississippi Aquarium is excited to partner with local organizations across the coast to collect and recycle beads. Over the years, Mississippi Aquarium has collected tens of thousands of pounds of beads preventing them from entering ecosystems and harming wildlife.
Unwanted throws can be dropped off daily from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. until March 15 at the Ticketing Plaza or the MSAQ Security Offices on 22nd Avenue in Gulfport.
Beads collected will be repurposed and resold. At one of the partnering organizations, the beads will help to fund medical care for those in need. At another facility, the beads recycling process helps to provide jobs.
When Mardi Gras beads end up as litter in our environment, they become a threat to the wildlife and marine animals of the Mississippi Sound and the rivers and estuaries of Coastal Mississippi. Birds, turtles, and other marine life can become entangled in or even accidentally consume the Mardi Gras beads and suffer injury or death.
Help protect our water supplies and marine life from harm by recycling those Mardi Gras beads at Mississippi Aquarium this Mardi Gras season.
Mississippi Aquarium has partnered with many community businesses and organizations to maximize collection efforts across the entire Gulf Coast including:- Beau Rivage Resort & CasinoBusinesses interested in setting up their own collections in support of MSAQ and it’s Mardi Gras Bead recycling efforts are asked to email info@msaquarium.org.Tell a Friend
