About Us
American Red Cross Mission
The American Red Cross prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors.
The Alabama-Mississippi Region is comprised of 149 counties that are broken down into eight geographical Chapters – Central Alabama, Mid Alabama, North Alabama, South Alabama, West Alabama, Southwest Mississippi, Southeast Mississippi and North Mississippi.
In 2008, the American Red Cross under the direction of President and CEO Gail McGovern unveiled the “One Red Cross” initiative which enables resources to be moved seamlessly where they are needed most especially during times of disaster and emergency.
When disasters happen, the Alabama-Mississippi Red Cross readily sends volunteers and resources regularly housed within the state to help with the relief efforts. Many of our volunteers are trained and very experienced due to the tornado outbreaks and tropical storm activity in recent years. With more than 3,500 trained Red Cross volunteers in the Alabama-Mississippi Region, we stand ready to respond to disasters near and far.
The Alabama-Mississippi Region provides the following services:
Disaster Services, Services to the Armed Forces, Health and Safety Services, Preparedness, International Services, Blood ServicesVideo Media

The United States Department of Defense (DoD) relies solely on the Red Cross to obtain verified reports of family situations for service members and their commanders, enabling them to make timely decisions about returning home.
Volunteers carry out 90% of the humanitarian work of the Red Cross.
Parents of young leaders! Encourage your teens to join our Red Cross youth volunteer team.
