About Us
Serving Mississippi since 1996, Apelah is a non-profit provider of specialized foster care exclusively in Mississippi. Through this service, we strive to achieve our mission of improving well-being and promoting independence throughout all of life’s stages with quality and compassion.
As an agency, Apelah recruits, trains, and works alongside foster parents to support children including those with medical or emotional needs. Our homes provide the structured environment and extra care essential to caring for these children.
Our program features:
Coordinated care focused on effective communication and planning related to the child’s health and well-being.
Foster parents who are well matched to the needs of the child.
Ongoing training for all foster parents.
Access to 24-hour case management support.
Our team of case managers is always available to answer questions and respond to any concerns a foster parent or potential foster parent may have. They work hard to make sure that all of our foster parents feel supported and ready to give each child the care that they need. At Apelah, we want to provide the children in our care homes that help them to thrive.

View Personal BioMs. Kim HeardI am the parent recruiter for Apelah in central and Gulf Coast Mississippi. I can present and collaborate with groups interested in finding more parents for children.
We recruit and teach individuals or couples to be foster parents, respit parents, or foster-to-adopt parents. Sometimes retirees are a good fit to start a second family. An important part of parenting is qualifying a few supportive friends who can step in when needed. We are able to serve children who have medical or emotional needs. One difference in helping children "in care" that is different from raising a child from birth is that most medical conditions have already been identified. We work with closely with professional and organizations.Ms. Kim HeardRecruiter/Trainer- Phone: (901) 766-0676
