    Wishes make life better for kids with critical illnesses. This simple, but powerful belief inspired the establishment of The Make-A-Wish® Foundation and drives everything we do. The Make-A-Wish story began in 1980, when a little boy named Chris, valiantly fighting leukemia, wished to be a police officer. After fulfilling Chris' wish, the group of committed volunteers came together to create Make-A-Wish. In 1984. Make-A-Wish Mississippi was formed in memory of a little girl from Gulfport, and in 1985, we received our charter the national organization created Make-A-Wish® Mississippi and to this day, we remain focused on creating life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. Locally, we have provided over 2,700 children and their families with healing and unforgettable wishes in the southernmost 65 counties in Mississippi. Wishes are more than just a nice "thing". The impact of a wish extends far beyond a single event or a moment in time. Wish kids, parents, medical professionals, volunteers and others report that the wish experience forever impacts the lives of everyone involved. A wish come true helps children suffering from critical illnesses feel stronger, more energetic, more willing and able to battle their medical conditions. For many the wish marks a turning point in their fight against their illness. Health professionals report that the wish experience works in concert with medicine to make their patients feel better emotionally and even physically.
